Do you have desires that are seemingly not being met? Have you tried to make things happen without success?
Psalm 37:4 says..
"Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart."
this Scripture says, "HE will GIVE..."
it doesn't say, "then you will work hard enough and take hold of your desires..."
but He will GIVE..
The reality is, we may think certain things will fix problems and make us happier,
but God knows what is actually best.
God is our good Father, and He loves us, and He sees those desires,
and knows them better than anyone else. He hasn't forgotten about us.
He knows what's good for His children and what's not,
He knows what will make us grow and build our character,
and what would be detrimental to us.
He knows how to bless us more than anyone else could!
He is our Father, after all!
He knows how to work everything out for our good.
He knows every little detail about our life and He knows if/when the exact timing should take place. When it's the LORD'S work, we don't need to strive to make things happen or try to get things done in our own way.
The world tells us to work harder, be more cunning, manipulate, strive
and to focus on ourselves to make us happy,
But God has given us a different way, a better way...
He tells us to...
"Take delight in the LORD"
Are you enjoying His presence, His goodness, His love right where you are at?
David Guzik commentary reads:
“Expect all thy happiness from him and seek it in him.” (Clarke)
Are you seeking all your happiness from God?
Or are you looking to Him only to answer your desires?
I get it, sometimes we can find ourselves in situations that bring so much stress and anxiousness, and we are so eager for God to answer our prayers and give us those desires!
And at times He answers right away, but for those long-waited answers,
or desires we don't seem to get, what is our response?
Are we anxious?
Frustrated, discouraged? Depressed?
If we are any of those things, it doesn't sound like we are delighting ourselves in the LORD.
So instead for the fulfillment of our desires, let us look to Jesus alone for our comfort and happiness and learn to truly delight ourselves in Him. Who knows, maybe you'll see those desires given, changed or maybe altogether given up for something or Someone far greater!
In any case we will be much better off delighting ourselves in the LORD
