When we moved into our home about 7 years ago, every wall in every room was white! And it was great, the perfect blank canvas for a new wife and new homemaker. My decor and style started to shift, but my walls faithfully remained the same, after all, white goes with everything! I even prided myself about how much I love having white walls a couple months before I started my painting spree (so much for my faithfulness to white walls)

Well in the spring of 2020 I decided I was over the plain walls and wanted some color!

I ended up painting our living room 3 times, downstairs bathroom 2 times, bedroom, guestroom, and Addy's room 2 times, while experimenting with stencil in two of those rooms, all within about a year and a half, it's been a journey to say the least.

Our living room wall pre color

My original dream was to have a Parisian inspired walls with molding and trim, because that is what dreams are made of, at least mine are anyway!

However, the wall that I wanted to paint is not only in our living room, but also in the dining room, and kitchen! So, there was not an ideal stopping point to end said trim, or even wallpaper, as that was my next idea.

I searched high and low for the perfect wallpaper.

I came close to a few ones that I loved, but none of them had that je ne sais quoi I was going for. So molding was too complicated, and I didn't find the right wallpaper

On to the 3rd option.

Paint.

After I found the inspiration I, in typical heather fashion, went to the store bought 5 samples and tested each one and waited 2 weeks to make sure it was the right color in every light and time of day,

JUST KIDDING.

I looked at paint colors online, bought the one I thought looked the best and went for it with zero regrets, Haha.

I could probably write a book on what not to do, but instead ill share my few successes and many, many failures with you here.

I don't remember exactly why I chose to go for a pink, but I do remember I saw these pictures and loved the way that color looked in these spaces!

.

The color I chose is called sandpaper from Home Depot.

From this moment on I fell in LOVE with painted walls

As you can see this wall runs all the way into the dining room, and not pictured, into the kitchen (I spy a yellow balloon and a messy table)

Honestly, this color is so pretty, and I loved having it in our space for the short time it was there. I don't at all regret painting it, but I started to lean toward darker and moodier colors, thanks to the 2015 Cinderella! and in the end, this color was too light for me and didn't have the vibe I was going for.

However, I did use it in the guestroom (pictured below) and it's still there, for now!

I am happy with how this color turned out, and I think it was a good start to a first-time home painter. I wish I could say the same for the next color I chose, but we can't win them all, can we?!

Keep your eye out for the next color I painted our living room with!
