Happy September Friends! The month where the rest of the year begins, for me anyways. Haha, I am so looking forward to getting Fall started although summer weather is just beginning where we live.
So, while I wait for the weather to cool down and fall officially begins I wanted to share a new cleaning method I have started to implement
I have started the FLY lady zone cleaning, and if you don't know what that is, let me allow Chat GPT to do a much better job at explaining it...
What is the FlyLady Zone Cleaning Method?
The FlyLady system was created by Marla Cilley as a way to make home cleaning less overwhelming. Instead of trying to tackle the whole house at once, she breaks it down into five “zones.” Each zone focuses on a specific area of your home, and you rotate through them monthly.
How It Works:
The House is Divided into 5 Zones
Zone 1: Entryway, porch, and dining room
Zone 2: Kitchen
Zone 3: Bathroom(s) and one extra room (like a laundry room or office)
Zone 4: Master bedroom, bathroom, and closet
Zone 5: Living room / family room
(These can be adapted to your own home’s layout.)
Focus on One Zone per Week-Each week of the month, your cleaning time is dedicated to a single zone. By the end of the month, every part of your home has been cared for.
Work in 15-Minute Increments-You only need to spend about 15 minutes per day on zone cleaning. This short, focused time makes it manageable without feeling overwhelming.
Deep Cleaning Instead of Surface Cleaning-Zone cleaning goes beyond daily tidying. For example:
In the kitchen, you might wipe down cabinet doors or clean the fridge shelves.
In the bedroom, you might dust baseboards or organize a dresser drawer.
In the bathroom, you could scrub behind the toilet or clean light fixtures.
Because you rotate zones monthly, nothing gets neglected for long.
Why It Works:
Keeps cleaning consistent and bite-sized.
Prevents the “spring cleaning panic” because everything is maintained year-round.
Helps create a rhythm, so cleaning feels less like a chore and more like a habit.
She has daily routines and weekly tasks to complete as well, which complement the zone cleaning! I am still getting the hang of it, I have never wanted to do zone cleaning because I have so many things to do in every part of the house, I could not fathom only spending time in ONE area for a week. However, I am started to understand the benefits of it, like cleaning things that would never have been done unless I set aside specific time and being less
stressed with trying to get everything done in one go.
