As I go into the second week into my May declutter challenge, I have gotten rid of close to 200 items, if not more. I am trying to be diligent about counting but I’ve lost track a few times! Haha but from what I’ve written down its at least 170! But I know it's more-and it's changing some thought processes for me!
And this Mother’s Day I want to talk about watching over the ways of our households.
As godly women and mothers we need to be prudent and wise with what God has given us-and that includes financially. Listen, as I type this, I’m currently in the shopping mood! Haha! So, it can be a struggle-but what I want to speak into specifically is buying things just because someone else has it-or because an ad told you too! Sometimes we could use a new kitchen tool or dress! But what we need to do is watch over household needs first...
I am not talking about getting inspiration and ideas from other women! I am thankful we can glean from each other to hopefully be better women, wives and moms! But comparing and being envious is wrong-and also being hyper judgmental and thinking we know what’s best for someone else is ick too.
God has given us each our own responsibilities-our homes, our family, our finances-and we need to manage it to the best of our ability and with prudence. The Bible says she watches over the ways of HER household Proverbs 31:27. She has her own responsibility, and she tends to that first and foremost. Notice it doesn’t say she watches over everyone elses…but her own.
She isn’t trying to keep up with the joneses. She is diligently making sure her household is being taken care of. And I like to think that she has wisdom on when to buy and when to refrain.
A practical way to do that is planning ahead...
-do I have bills coming up? Do I have a trip planned? Do I have a wedding I’ll need a dress and gift for?
If you are keeping tabs on what’s going on with your house first, you’ll be able to make better decisions about buying things. Much like learning that you’d be ok if you got rid of things, you’d be ok if you didn’t buy certain things too!
My beggarly advice is if there is an item you really want, ask yourself if it’s necessary and then ask yourself what expenses are coming up? I can’t tell you what you and your household need-I have my own to think about-and that’s the point I am trying to make. You can see what is needed, I can’t.
And If you need wisdom, ask God
“ If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him” James 1:5
God is our provider, and He is with us, we don’t have to worry or be anxious
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6
These are all the things I am learning myself and just wanted to share! When we become mom’s, our whole worlds change for the better! Including learning to put other’s needs before our own!
I think of my own mom (HI MOM!) this Mother’s Day who watches over the ways of her household and has always made sure everyone is taken care! She truly is a real-life Proverbs 31 woman, and I am so thankful to have her example! As well as my husband’s mom! (Hey! 😊) She always is thinking of others and what they need! Even kids who are not her grandkids come to her because they know she’ll have whatever they need! Haha!
Happy Mother’s Day to all you mommas! Your work is of utmost importance, and I hope you feel extra valued and appreciated this day!
